Description
As a native Missourian, Dick Gephardt has closely followed and strongly admired the remarkable progress that SRC Holdings has made over its 27 years. In his book, “An Even Better Place”, which was written prior to his second run for President in 2004, Dick chronicled the SRC story and gave firsthand accounts of his several visits to Springfield. Gephardt described Open Book Management as “an overall approach to corporate governance that treats the employees like co-owners of the business who have to make sacrifices and take on the burdens that any owner assumes.” Since leaving public service in 2005, Dick Gephardt has become an outspoken advocate for The Great Game of Business and can be heard telling the SRC story in many of his speeches and in the corporate boardrooms where he participates including Ford, US Steel, Spirit Aerosystems, CenturyLink, Centene Corporation and Logen Corporation. Dick has brought numerous corporate and labor union leaders to Springfield so they could see and hear the SRC story and take valuable learnings back to their organizations. In his keynote address, Dick will provide firsthand accounts of his experience playing and promoting The Great Game of Business. Gephardt will share real world examples of companies that have the “gotta wanna” attitude and understand that winning the hearts and minds of their people is the key to continually outperforming their competitors. He will also tell stories about once great companies that squandered their competitive position by stifling the drive and innovation of their workers and adhering to the command and control practices of the industrial age. Gephardt will conclude by describing why he feels so strongly that more widespread adoption of Great Game principles is THE key to our economic future in a global economy.
